May in the desert means the beginning of cactus flowers.  The first thing Wayne and I did way back when was to start a cactus fence (some of our neighbors cringe), both honoring the cholla forest that existed here before development and provided a living fence for wildlife. 

One of our eventual goals is to reintroduce as many native cactus as possible to this area.   We have selected for flower color and have just begun to offer cholla cactus in the nursery.  Below are examples of some of the flowers in our yard.
